17th January:
I`m really in the doghouse now; another tiring upwind passage. But there has
been no south in the wind since leaving the N African coast in November.

Tobago Cays had to be given a miss as they lay directly upwind and we are
reluctant tourists to crowded places anyway. We needed to make progress
North and decided to make for Bequia 30M from our gorgeous Chatham Bay
anchorage on Union Island, and also to leave to starboard the Donald Trump
empire and Moorings charter base at Canouan. The close fetch into a 20-25
knot NE breeze and choppy sea still left us over 6 miles to leeward of
Admiralty Bay and Port Elizabeth which though very pretty has a rather
crowded anchorage. Given the good visibility, warmth from sparkling sun on the glistening sea, this would have been considered a perfect day sail down the Irish Sea which shows just how spoilt we have become.

We`ve not yet been ashore though everyone we have met says Bequia is nice so
a few days here for R&R has been declared before we move on to St Vincent
which seems only a stone`s throw away. I think this could be expensive.
