20/21 January 2020

Very slightly north of Union Island is Mayreau and the Tobago keys. We moored by an outer reef and were met by one of the local “boat boys“ who helped us moor and invited us to a beach barbecue that evening.

We swam from Ernestina onto the nearby reef and on the way there and back we saw a number of turtles. They were not in the least bit timid – in fact it seemed as if they wanted to be photographed and filmed – quite charming creatures and a magical experience.

In the evening our Boat Boy (who is, like most of his colleagues, a fully grown man!) came to pick us up and took us to a nearby beach where around 100 people were gathering to enjoy freshly barbecued fish with rice and salad is accompanied by rum punch or beer. It was very tasty and with good company – all together a fun evening.
