Union Island

Union Island is the southern most  part of St Vincent the Grenadines, just a few miles north of Carriacou and only a few square miles in area.

We picked up a mooring boy in Clifton harbour, an exposed bay on the east side but one which is protected by a reef. This means that whilst it is windy the water is flat.

Clifton is the main town and seems to survive mainly on tourism with many bars, restaurants and souvenir shops but, nonetheless, has a very friendly relaxed feel about the place.

On Sunday we rented a scooter and toured the island in a few hours. This included a stop at Sparrows Beach Club (named after Captain Jack) for lunch and swimming – delightful!

On Monday I went to check-in to St. Vincent and was told-off by the manager for not checking in sooner; we could (and should) have gone to the nearby airport to checked in over the weekend. Despite the uniforms and working in an air-conditioned office ( the complete opposite of everyone else we came across) the reprimand was pretty gentle and the customs official was, like everyone here friendly.
