In our wet and windy sail from Terceira, Eileen and
Kelly caught more tuna, normal size of 4 kg. (like the others) and they
were delicious. Whales came closer to the boat, one being 40' long, and another
with a very high dorsal fin.
The 4- 5 metre waves came over the bow,
sometimes filling the cockpit. The anchor was knocked off its holder on the
bowsprit by waves. Eileen managed to reattach it, and we are now selling tickets
for a dunk tank experience.
Travelling across the 4 shipping lanes off the coast of Portugal had looked daunting on the AIS screen with a constant stream of traffic going north and south. The weather had improved by then, good wind and ordinary waves, and we got through in the night. Sailing down the coast of Portugal in the dawn was lovely, all on deck, coffees in hand. Cascais is a great bay to anchor. July 2, 2001 was
our arrival day here, O'Neill's Irish Bar still
operating.
