Yarmouth

Having left Guernsey on Tuesday morning, James and I had a great trip across to Lulworth – indeed the engine only worked for a little at both ends, and we had a good breeze all day with a smooth sea and great visibility. All in all a great first crossing for James.

We anchored in Lulworth and had a lovely evening, supper in the cockpit as the sun went down. Then the usual – at around 02.00 the wind got up, people started dragging, and eventually 3 boats left to seek pastures new.

While we stayed put the skipper had a sleepless night keeping watch, James claimed he woke up a few times too….

By 06.00 it was getting a bit hairy – so we elected to leave and sailed round to Studland.

We had breakfast there at 09.30 then the young crew caught up on his ZZZ’s while the skipper tried to catch up but the phone kept ringing!

After a leisurely lunch we decided to head back to Yarmouth and had an interesting sail along the line of conflict between the sea breeze and the gradient breeze, with 40 degree shifts the norm!

Eventually we came storming up the Needles Channel with around 20 knots of wind on the nose and met the RSYC race fleet and the Wightlink Ferry – so back to normal then!

We both thoroughly enjoyed a shower and good supper at the RSYC to finish off the trip.
