It is again very hot. An equivalent to 103 degrees. The temperature will get hotter in the next 6 weeks which is an inducement for us to find cooler weather north.
Charleston has history involving the British that goes back to 1670 when British settlers arrived with grants of land from the English monarchy. Today we visited a plantation house called Boone Hall. The photo shows the house which was only built in the 1930's but occupied the site of earlier houses that history say were destroyed by fire and hurricane. Boone Hall has operated as a Plantation, or farm, for much longer. Indeed, for over 300 years. Fortunes were made from cotton, peaches and other produce and continues to this day.
The house has an unique avenue of old oak trees and the house has featured in a number of films including Gone With The Wind. Much of the history concerns slavery and there are haunting accounts of the misery endured by too many. The manner of buying and selling people and even destroying families at the whim of the master seems absurd, but undeniably, indeed happened. Nowerdays, Charleston is the fastest growing US town east of Mississippi.
All is well on Shelena.
