Beaufort, North Carolina

Beaufort is a very small town about 400 years old. It is very pretty with a waterside walk, restaurants and shops.  Also a nautical book shop where we bought and expensive chart.

Tomorrow we move to Oriental, which is about 20 miles north.  We have a slip in a marina which we’ve been “loaned” by D and Don – fellow OCC members.  We will stay for a few days to see what hurricane Matthew is going to do.  He is a category 5 hurricane, now downgraded to 4, and heading for Jamaica and the east of Cuba.  It covers a huge geographical area, and his track is proving quite difficult to predict.  If he continues north west he will hit the east coast of the US somewhere and will certainly have an effect on North Carolina.  We’re hoping he will turn away out over the Atlantic and/or be downgraded to a tropical storm by the time he reaches here.  If the weather is going to be very bad here we will try and arrange to have the boat taken out of the water and tied down, and then wait for the storm to pass and then come home.  We wait and see...
