On the passage to the Galapagos in March I reported the death of a dear friend, Charles Grant. At the time his wife Sheri was also receiving treatment for cancer but until the end of August, when we last corresponded, things seemed to be stable. However today we were shocked and saddened to receive news of her passing also.
Not being there for and with family and friends is one of the downsides of extended travel and the main reason we try and get home every six months or so. At our time of life it is our contemporaries whose loss we are coming to terms with and not mostly those of the generation above as has been the case. It makes us realise that those of us still lucky enough to live and enjoy life in good health really should treasure every moment and take nothing for granted.
In Sheri's case it is particularly painful for her two children, Francis and Naomi to have lost both parents is such a short space of time. We send our love to them and hope that Charles and Sheri can now rest in peace together.
