19 hours into the voyage and it has been a windy, rolly night with 30kts of breeze and a building sea with waves of around 3m. We have set a reefed genoa only on a broad reach and this is taking us along at 6-7 kts.

On Sunday Annie and I took a guided drive around Santa Antao and there are some photos attached of the wonderful scenery. It would make a brilliant walking holiday over a couple of weeks and we have this in mind for the future.

Steve is getting his sea legs and seems to be enjoying himself although seems a little daunted that there is only one way to go from here and we have 2100 miles to our destination!

The weather forecast for the week ahead is for progressively lighter winds which may make for a more comfortable ride but will mean we can’t be so lazy with the sail setting if we are to maintain speed. We left Mindelo in 25kts of wind but by 2030 were motoring into a light westerly breeze! We were a bit perplexed and disappointed by this but it may have just been the effect of the islands we were passing as by 2330 we were sailing in 25kts of NE wind again.

Two marinas in Antigua have confirmed berth availability (Jolly Harbour and Nelson’s Dockyard). Nelson’s is where most British boats head, for obvious reasons, Nelson being just 26 when he was the senior Captain there in charge of the port. Such choice to contemplate over the next two weeks or so.
