TRAPANI, ITALY
TO MALTA
We’re off again…after an
enjoyable stay in Trapani, doing a few boat projects & a bit of
sightseeing, wine sampling, & feasting, we’re on our way to Malta…this will
be another new place to explore…after an over night sail, we finally sighted
Malta when we were only 2 mi. away!…It’s a low lying rock of an island, and it
was shrouded under a haze of dust, making it difficult to see…we arrived at
Marsamxeti Harbor, sailing along the famous walled fortress city of Valletta
was spectacular…it’s been restored since it was almost completely destroyed
during WWII…just across the channel are several huge marinas…we were able to
get a spot in M’sida Marina, which gave us easy access to everything we
needed…the “to do” boat list was quite a bit longer this time!…we were very
impressed with the extensive services available on such a small island! &
were especially surprised when workers actually showed up when they said they
would… all our repairs were done within 7 days, giving us a bit of time to do
some exploring as well…lots of long walks along the waterfront & the old
city streets in the evenings when things cooled down a bit…great people
watching…Malta also has a terrific bus system which consists of lots of old
“classic” busses that are privately owned, so each one has it’s own
“personality”…once all the repairs were finished, we had to remind ourselves
that we had to get moving once again…so, next destination will be Port Said at
the entrance to the Suez Canal.
