Delightful week spent sailing around Inland sea
- Meganisi, Kalamos, Ithaca and Cephalonia before ending up at Preveza.
Lots of sailing - good breezes every day so very little motoring. On
Monday we had a cracking sail fully reefed down in 25 knots gusting 30 knots but
on a flat sea. There was also some good light winds sailing - goosewinging
downwind towards the end of the week.
Highlights of the week included visiting Port
Leone on Kalamos which is a village which was deserted after it was wrecked in
the 1953 earthquake. The crew also liked Kioni on Ithaca as well as the
wonderfully quiet anchorages on Meganisi. On Cephalonia we watched Captain
Correlli's Mandolin on DVD on board before visting the beach where it was filmed
the following day!
Food on board was excellent due to Ian's
inventive cooking and all in all a very relaxing and enjoyable week. The
weather stayed fine until this morning where we saw the first rain for a
fortnight - but it didn't last long.
Today we visited the ruins of Nicopolis, a Roman
city built by Octavian after he defeated Anthony just off Preveza. It was
fascinating how much remains from then and from the early Christian settlement
on the same site.
