10th May 2011

You were probably all thinking we have sailed off the end of the earth! Not quite, we have been moored at “our” yacht club ICRJ sub sede Angra waiting for our VHF radio to be returned from Sao Paulo. André suspected there was a problem for some time. We were not picking up transmissions. After calls and testing we discovered they were reading us 5/5 but we couldn’t hear them. Our friend from Parati, Fabio, contacted the Icom supplier in Sao Paulo and was told it is a known fault with this series of radios and we were to send it in to be repaired. Well one week later it was returned, that was yesterday.

This week we have been doing the chores. Mending sails and stack packs, sewing rain shields for the shade screens. The boat has been scrubbed inside and out, thanks to free water on the dock here. Servicing of various items like winches, motors etc has been completed by André.

Now we are waiting to leave to go north. We will be setting off for Ilha Grande later today and will float around there until the wind arrives then we leave. Our first stop should be Buzios about 70nm North of Rio.

We also had a haircut session; I cut my own for the first time with some help from André at the back and trimmed his. J
