Anchorage 17 – Abraao day 2

We woke early and did some chores, washing and cleaning the boat. By the time we finished it was midday and we decided to spend another night at this anchorage.

We putted across to the town and went back to the geocache we couldn’t find, but no luck.

In the same area are natural pools. The water runs down from the mountain cold and fresh. It flows over rocks and natural pools have developed. The water from this stream and the pools still provide Abraao with all its water.

We were hot and sweaty and decided to go for a dip. The walk to the pools is up through the jungle, on the way we say a family of marmosets playing tag in the trees. It was beautiful to see them in their natural habitat not sentenced to life behind bars!

The pool water is cool but not too cold and we were soon submerged. The flow from up the mountain bubbles over the rocks and André soon spotted a perfect rock for a slide. It is not very high but ran right into the deepest part of the pool. So he tried it out. It worked. The flow of water is not enough to push you far but once you reach the slope sliding down was easy.

He and I had some turns then we sat and watched. It tool about 5 mins before the first watchers overcame their shyness of “copying” us and tried it too. Soon everyone was taking a turn to slide.  Andre started a new tradition in Abraao.

After the swim we went back into town, bought some vegetables, had a beer and then back out to the boat for a shower and dinner which was tomato and cheese hamburgers. J

Just along the beach from the town is a house who has channelled the fresh water (here they call it sweet water) into a hosepipe that is hooked up in his tree. Everyone is welcome to take their jerry cans and fill up. Look carefully in the photo for the fountain from the hose pipe.

Beer at the bar on the beach

House nearby with fresh water supply. Look carefully for hosepipe in the tree.
