Cabin Fever... Or Land Sickness

Maybe it's a sign that I've been here in Morocco for too long but I spent all yesterday afternoon and evening shivering and being sick. I even went to bed fully clothed with the heating on and the Sahara is not so far down the coast!

Anyway, there are several boats here all waiting for the wind to veer west as it seems we're all heading for the Canaries. I thought I might leave today but although I'm feeling a lot better now, I've got a difficult week of sailing ahead and I think I'll wait another day or two. I'm getting quite anxious to move on now though. It's a fascinating place and full of surprises but the weather's been unseasonally bad and now I know the next destination, it's only natural to want to move on.

I've made a lot of friends here. It wasn't so busy when I arrived but a storm came through on Friday and several more boats took refuge. As such, there's a really good community spirit and maybe, when the wind veers, we'll set off in convoy.

My next stop is Las Palmas in the Canaries where I'm expecting to find it heaving with boats preparing for the ARC. I'm told that it's a fun time to be on the island as there are plenty of parties and I'm sure too that there will be plenty of yacht facilities. It's back into Europe then briefly and getting there should take about six or seven days. I can comfortably do 140 a day in the right conditions but the wind is forecast to drop so it might be slow progress.

Cheers for now,

Bee
