We headed out to the Los Perlas islands about 30 miles off the coast of panama for a week of final preparations before we head out into the big wide pacific ocean. Our first anchorage was between two small islands in a secluded little bay with clear water and sandy beaches. Unfortunately the next day we got told to bugger off by some military officials. Apparently the two small islands were part of an army base. So we found ourselves in another wee bay with sandy beaches, but the water wasn’t so clear and there was a big resort being built not far away. Nevertheless, it was a great spot for a few drinks and a couple of bon fires on the beach. We then headed toward the main town in the islands, San Miguel, to see if we could pick up a few more fresh veges. Didn’t find any veges but we did find a nice bar over looking a bay some friendly locals and free bag of mangos.
We attempted to move down to one last anchorage before we left but what started off a nice quite sail rapidly turned into pelting rain and 35+ knot winds. After a brief chat with the kiwis over the radio, who had temporarily lost their dinghy, we both decided to head back to our last anchorage for the next two nights. If nothing else it was nice shake down sail (for both crew and boat) for the crossings ahead.
So all going well, we are going to head off to the Galapagos Islands tomorrow, for 10 days or so of smooth sailing.
Catch you again then!
