So, after our stormy arrival and wind blown night, the winds eased and made the early morning walk around Ona very pleasant. It is a lovely place and would merit a longer visit, with its well-kept houses in multicolour wood cladding and some nice touches such as a football field by the sea, a pub and two fine lighthouses. It was a pity we had to leave but after porridge we made our way out of the harbour and navigated the reef areas with care before being able to sail at between 6 and 7 knots for quite a while. As the weather improved the wind slackened and eventually, as the sun came out, died again so back to the engine. It was a relaxing entry into alesund, with various jobs being done - some cleaning, washing of lines and general fiddling! The mooring in Alesund is right in the middle of the old city, which is very attractive. In addition, two minutes walk takes one to the southern fjord and a spectacular view of the mountains of Sunnmore and Geiranger. Having cleaned and restocked the boat we now await the arrival of Patrick and Virginia tomorrow before we say goodbye to Rachael and Philippe, who embark on more adventures in Norway, and Mary who goes back to work; in the morning we set sail for Shetland. Meanwhile, we will enjoy the evening and the satisfaction of having sailed the 680 miles down the coast from Tromsø.
