We were very keen to leave Phi Phi yet again (definitely too old for this island!) and we motor sailed for 3 hours to a small island just off Krabi called Koh Dam Hok. We anchored here between two beautiful islands and a coral reef and had some lunch, made fresh water and did some washing while Mitch and Elle explored the area by dinghy. We decided to move on another 2 miles to Rai Le Beach at Krabi.

Krabi is famous for its stunning beach and sea mountain scenery and is a geographic extension of the karst sea mountains of Phang Nga, but has deeper, clearer waters - perfect for snorkelling and diving. We anchored very close to the beach and had drinks on the deck while Elle and Mitch went to the beach to enquire about a hotel room for the night - Elle had managed 9 nights in the cabin and had done well for her first time on a boat but she was desperate for an air conditioned hotel room with decent bathroom ( I don't blame her)They found a room and we met them for dinner at a local restaurant, which was unfortunately pretty average and left me feeling a bit ordinary the next day. However I went for an early morning dip and a wonderful kayak around some of the sea mountains, but we were in a busy spot with lots of longtail boats and tourist ferries buzzing past us so we moved the boat further away from the beach to enjoy a quieter day.

I stayed on the boat while Greg, Dadang, Mitch and Elle went to a restaurant on shore for lunch, but again were disappointed by the food. Greg and I slept up on deck and gave the kids our bed for the night. The wind picked up during the night and the anchorage became a bit uncomfortable.
