Since the last blog we have been to quite a few
places. Left Kefalonia on Friday and went to Kioni on Ithaka. Very pretty place
and eventually managed to anchor as the deep waters there made it tricky.
Additionally it hit a 38.5c with no wind which made it incredibly hot. Only
answer was to be in the water.
Saturday morning was very hot in Kioni and although
it would have been lovely to stay longer, by 10am it was already looking like it
would be as hot as the day before so decided to escape the heat and went past
the island of Atokos and onto Kastos which is a small only slightly inhabited
island. Eventually we anchored on a small bay with only fish for company and
no-one else around. It was very windy but luckily the anchor held. Lots of
larger fish of the same usual kind which we snorkelled with. The ones with the
yellow eyes are very curious and stay close by but don’t have the cheek
to nibble you.
On arriving we saw on the shore what I
thought was a small black Labrador but Andy
said was a cat. Would have had to be a puma to have been a cat. However the
argument was settled the next day when a black goat arrived the next day.
After being buzzed by some Sunday Greek day tripper
to the bay we moved on to Port Leone on Kalamos (the next door island). The bay
had a few derelict houses as the people left after the 1953 earthquake so it
was quite erie
despite many other boats being there. There was an amazing Electrical storm
which we could see over the mainland.
Left early this morning heading for Meganissi again
but due to our water shortage we landed in Nidri on Levkas for water and
supplies.
On
leaving Nidri we were shouted at by a man on a British boat as he went past. It
was NIGEL who had a boat in Dartmouth
who we’ve not heard from in 2yrs! So instead
of going
back out to Meganissi we have followed him on to the bay of Vlycho, on Levkas,
had a beer and are now going for some food with him and Rochelle. Apparently
this is
where all the ex pat English reside in Greece and is better known as
Velcro as they never leave. They’ve been sailing for the last year around
here.
