Sunday 29 Nov. After getting the boat ready to sail we had a late start for the trip to La Gomera, but as it was only 18nm port to port, it was hardly critical. The winds were extremely light and we tried to fly the asymmetric to check it out. But after wrapping itself around the forestay and mast (due to the lack of wind); fortunately not irretrievably; we decided to take it down and put on the engine. Just as well, because by the time we got half way, we entered the wind acceleration zone between the islands and within about 5 minutes the wind was up to F6 (29knots).

Went into the very nice marina in La Gomera harbour (a little tight, but we squeezed in) for the final chores before the crossing. Very different from G Canaria and Tenerife, less built up and touristy, with still some of the old island buildings standing. After completing the chores, some shopping and washing, we had a walk around the town and chatted to some of the guys who are rowing single handed from La Gomera to Antiqua. If they do it in 50 days they will consider themselves fast. Rather them than us.

Did a trip round the island on Tuesday, interesting scenery, lots of ups and downs and hairpins.

Tomorrow we leave for Barbados, about noon.
