We are now into our fourth day into our Atlantic crossing. The first day was slow going with winds never quite where we needed them. At the end of the first day we made the decision to change from the "southern route" to the "middle route" to the Caribbean. As soon as we did this our boat speed picked up and we flew for 2 full days at between 8 & 10 knots in wind speed of around 16 knots, The middle route will take us across to the Caribbean at around 23 degrees North.
Yesterday was full sunshine but no wind. Daniel and I decided to take a dip, hanging off the swim ladder. Daniel even swam between the hulls. We found the goggles and were amazed at the clarity of the water. Looking down was a bit freaky though. I'm not sure how much water was below us but it was deep!!
Last night we had good breezes again and have made further progress towards the Caribbean. Might call Viv Richards to ask him to fire up the BBQ.
We are a little further north than I would like to be but hopefully we will be able to work south in the next couple of days.
The bolt on the mast came loose again and a shackle on the traveller fell apart during the night. Both fixed thankfully. Grateful for the spares provided by Gregor and Fountaine Pajot.
