There has been some tension aboard today. The Dockers are playing the Eagles in the Derby and we have recently heard the Eagles prevailed. Score??
Daniel has been bouncing around in his Eagles jumper most of the day. I have threatened him with a keel-hauling [and this could be bad for him as we have two keels!] but he refuses to remove it.
It is now late in the day and we have continued to make good ground. Sometime tomorrow we will pass the half way mark to Antigua. This is eagerly awaited by all the crew, who have very liitle else to occupy their time. I have promised a small celebration but this is reserved for Dockers. I have a membership form with me and am gently persuading Daniel to rethink his allegiences.
We are around 1386NM from the Caribbean now but to me it feels as though we are closing in on our destination. The wind has become far more consistent over the past 4 days and has also become a little stronger. The pilot chart suggests that in May we can expect good breezes to kick us along closer to the Caribean.
Our first fish went down a treat yesterday at lunch. It was some sort of mackeral [spelling??] we think. It was good to finally get a fish onboard as we were starting to think we were in the aquatic version of the Sahara Desert. We caught it with one of the lures we purchased in Las Palmas. Tasted great.
The ocean has been calm for most of passage. We had a large following sea earlier today but this has now eased. So far [touch wood] we have not seen any of the harsh weather we saw at times above the Canaries.
I have heard through the grapevine that some of Lyn's golf friends have been following her journey but I have to tell you that this has been no picnic for her. She is secretly training at my "Bootcamp for Wayward Golfers" to wow everyone on her return Swabbing the decks with her toothbrush, five times a day up the mast, an hours swim behind the boat [without the shark cage] and benchpressing the outboard motor. She will be hitting off from the men's tee on her return and I fully expect her to strip 10 shots from her handicap. Look out!!
Regards to all
