Our plan to move south payed off last night for us.
At around 7pm we reached the Tropic of Cancer and decided to make our turn and
set a direct waypoint for the Caribbean. I'm not sure if Neptune himself
intervened but almost at once the wind rose to 14 knots from the north-east and
we were soon making good boat speed. Overnight the winds peaked at 18-19 knots
and we were flying along at 8-10 knots. I't's like we hit the turbo button at
times. In the 12 hours overnight we sailed just over 100NM.
We are now around 1850NM from Antigua and still
sailing west. Our boat speed is around 6 knots.
Last night we had another swallow join us. The poor
little guy [or gal] flew into the saloon a few times and eventually land on
Lyn's leg. He is still with us this morning but still looks a spent force. He
has come 100NM west with us. I hope he wasn't flying east!!
Also had our first flying fish land on the bimini
top last night. Must have been a hell of a flyer to get that high. He was past
CPR this morning sadly so may be breakfast!
