I woke at 5.30 this morning to find myself covered in itchy and unsightly mosquito bites. The burner we had in the cockpit last night which claims to repel them failed to do what it said on the tin and their high-pitched whine, so loud in the quiet of the night kept waking up. Paul has some too but luckily his aren’t itching. We will have to find other ways of persuading them to leave us alone. At least the early start allowed me to watch the sun rise at 6.30 this morning – always a pleasurable sight.  Today was devoted to more cleaning, and checking and fixing equipment.  In such heat we made sure we had plenty of cold drinks to refresh ourselves (luckily the boat’s fridge is keeping the beer and wine nicely chilled).  Paul put the solar showers up on deck so we were able to have refreshing showers after all our hard work.

This evening as I was cooking in the galley, listening to one of my music compilations, loud music began booming across the bay from Culatra. The singer’s voice is probably best described as similar to the Portuguese crooner played by Steve Coogan a few years ago, and the songs were typical Eurotrash.  This Saturday night entertainment continued into the early hours but it amused rather than disturbed us and we were far too tired to be kept awake by it.
