Azores
to Dartmouth, Day 6 - Tuesday June 8,
2010 At
1200 hrs UT: 46:50.9N
18:11.8W Distance
to Dartmouth: 618 Nautical Miles We're
now over half way to Dartmouth from the Azores, and although none
of us want this trip to end too soon, the North Atlantic weather
is beginning to have its way with our nerves as well as our sleep patterns.
Winds remained out of the Northwest at around 25 knots throughout most of the
day, but have picked up again since sun down to gusting 35 in the rain
squalls. Large amounts of 'green seas' regularly douse those
in the cockpit. Thankfully, not even a constantly shifting cooking
surface could keep Martin from mixing up a batch of his mother's marvellous
home-baked bread - which most certainly rose to the occasion (pun
intended). This
evening's meal (canned salmon and penne), while tasty thanks to Martin's
culinary magic, was a harsh reminder at just how inept we are at catching live
fish. I acknowledge that the weather has been a bit unfavorable the past
few days, but how do we explain the last fishless 3,500 nautical
miles. Beer
