Guess what it is 5.30pm on Fri and it is still
raining, that means with the exception of a few spells of a few minutes it has
rained continuously since Tues afternoon. To say we are getting a bit fed up
with it is an understatement!!! Though I have to say Justine G is a very
comfortable place to be if you have to be stuck inside. We just bless the
foresight that made us take our cockpit cover even though it is a bit tatty and
some of the seams are coming apart it has made such a difference. We can at
least keep the companionway hatch and washboards out so we don't feel so
confined. and most of the cockpit is fairly dry apart from some odd splashes
where the wind has blown the water in.
Compared to the French boat next door we are
positively luxurious, all they have is a sort of umbrella over the cockpit hatch
and they look very bedraggled.
Still it does look if the weather is beginning to
break. The barometer has gone up 16mB since Tues and there are signs of
lightness in the clouds. There are now lighter grey clouds in between the dark
ones. The forecast is for the rain to stop over night and tomorrow and Sunday to
have 'some clouds' - not 'sunny intervals' as we would have in the UK. the glass
is definately half empty here!!
There is so much rain water coming down that the
water has gone very muddy, and we are going t have to look out for bits of
debris floating around, they have already pulled out several tree branches - who
knows what else is out there.
We got out in one of the brief spells of lighter
rain last night to go out to the local restaurant. It doesn't open till 8.30pm
so we had 40mins to kill. Had a quick wander round the town. It is a strange
mixture of quite a modern shopping centre with clothes shops, shoe shops etc,
mixed in with some really derelict buildings. I can't make my mind up whether it
is a town on the way down or on the way up. I wonder what work there is here, I
get the impression there might not be much.
Amanda has gone into hibernation we have stripped
the bed to dry out the mattresses and I think if she had her way she would just
burrow under the pile and disappear till the sun comes out. Still on the
positive side she is working steadily through Chapter 2 of Basic Book-Keeping,
so instead of nautical conversations like whats our heading, do you think we
should luff up or should we tighten the lower shroud turn buckles we get 'if Mr
Jones buys £2000 of goods does this debit or credit the Sales
ledger?
So the plan weather permitting is to sail on
towards Gijon tomorrow. This is about 60 miles East of here so we are going to
do it as an overnight trip. It will take 10-12 hours and I would rather arrive
in the morning and have alll day to enter the town, than get there at night
having to find my way into an unfamiliar port in the dark. Gijon is supposed to
have wi-fi so we may be able to upload some photos we shall see..
