We were going to leave first thing, but felt we
just had to pop into town to see the results of all the hard work the night
before. It was well worth the delay!! The streets were completly covered in
pictures made up of combinations of flowers, coloured sand shells and masses of
leylandi leaves to give a green background. I don't know what time they
finished, but they must have been up all night judging by the rate they were
going when we left yesterday evening.
Hopefully the pictures and video will show
something of the spectacular effort and results.
We motored out of Ares to a light breeze almost
dead on the nose, so the first 10 miles was a motor-sailing. There is quite a
large swell so we were just using the genoa. There was not enough wind to stop
the boom crashing around with the rolling at this stage. We motored about half a
mile offshore to Capo Prior then turned eastwards to Cedeira. It really is an
incredible coastline with cliffs, large rocky islands and all very green. The
weather is similar to English soast coast just a bit warmer.
After Capo Prior we were able to stop the engine
and hoist all sail for a 12 mile broad reach to Cedeira. As we sailed along we
were watching the boundary between clouds and blue sky getting gradually closer
till eventually the sun came out and the temperature started to rise. It was a
great sail with gentle winds and sparkly blue seas. If only it was always like
that.
The entrance to Cedeira was one of those where you
can't see it till you are right on top of it, making it a little more exciting.
Anyway we are here about a mile down a little inlet anchored in the harbour. The
sun is still shining, but there is a 10-12knot wind blowing over the harbour
keeping everything cool.
We are just going to enjoy the setting and not
bother to get the dinghy out just for one night so tomorrow we will be going on
to Viviera about 30 miles east of here.
Still at least we are moving!!
More tomorrow.
