The weather gods were kind. The winds stayed pretty much easterly and as we rounded Ushant the boys were informed that there would be a fairly gentle Biscay Crossing. This trial had loomed large in several imaginations, not ameliorated by maternal forebodings, but turned out to be that most wonderful, and boring of sails, a motor-sail.
