A pleasant day spent pottering in a very sheltered marina here in Dover – we even managed a glass of wine out in the cockpit in the evening sun.  It was also a chance to spend time concentrating on the navigation side of things; plotting a course for real is very different to the day skipper questions, especially for days like yesterday when we took the inside route past the infamous Goodwin Sands.  Although it still takes a large chunk of each day we are now getting into the pattern of planning routes - where should we go, when can we enter the harbour and how does that work with the tidal streams.  Now we’re looking forward to sailing past the white cliffs as we head towards Dungeness.
