57:40.83N 02:34.69W Saturday – the red line indicating high winds is back all round the west and north of Scotland, including our current weather area, Cape Wrath to Rattray Head, but the higher wind should only reach us later in the day so we decide to scamper across the Moray Firth before it comes.  So, away by 0800 and we enjoy an interesting journey going from 0 winds outside Wick to 26mph as we approach Whitehills.  As a result we go through every sail pattern from no sail to full sail, and then right the way back to double reefed main and headsail – keeps us entertained and on our toes!  Whitehills is a small, well-protected harbour on the south of the Firth and we’re made most welcome by the harbour master, who comes down to see us safely into harbour and helps us tie up.  It’s very friendly with good facilities so we decide to spend Sunday here before setting off to round Rattray Head.
