Scrabster harbour is a busy fishing and commercial harbour and is not set up for yachts, but we’ve been bowled over by the friendliness of people here.  We’re looking at the difficulties of crossing the Pentland Firth, and the RNLI and the Mission to Fishermen are both very helpful.  Then Gary Cameron takes us into Thurso, waits for us while we shop and then brings us back to the harbour via a sightseeing tour of the old part of Thurso.  Finally we need diesel, but fuel is dispensed here in commercial quantities and our 5 litre cans are dismissed as ‘a wee drop’.  We accept a 3 mile slog to the nearest garage but, once again, the fishermen (Boy John) come to our assistance and fill our cans for us – thank you to everyone who has made our stay here so welcoming.  Photos: Juniper against the wall, our illustrious neighbour the Hebridean Princess, and one of the fishing boats in the harbour.
