Ardfern is a beautiful sheltered spot at the head of Loch Craignish. The sun is shining, it’s warm and there’s just the gentlest of breezes. So why aren’t we sailing? The Met Office forecast yesterday was NW 5-7, occasionally gale 8. Today we’ve lost the gale bit, but it’s now N to NW and we’ve a tricky passage through the Dorus Mor and past Fladda rock so we really don’t need a strong wind against tide. Still, it’s given us the opportunity to meet up with Mike and Wendy and, as always, it’s a chance for some housework and chart plotting. The geography of Scotland is at last beginning to fall into place, helped by the realisation that ‘mull’ means promontory and therefore the Mull of Kintyre has nothing to do with the Island of Mull, and that Kyleakin and Kyle of Lochalsh are two separate places on opposite sides of Loch Alsh. |
