50:12.70N 05:28.37W Sunday was reward time – compensation for the journeys that have been hard slog.  Unbelievably in T shirts, shorts and bare feet, we left Newlyn mid afternoon and out into the bay.  With clear blue sky, sparkling blue water and a nice breeze we were able to enjoy the scenery missed from the day before.  We have the water to ourselves as we pass Mousehole and Penlee Point , original home of the Penlee lifeboat, and then onwards to the Runnel Stone.  I’ve always been impressed with the Cornish coastline but to see Lands End from the sea is truly awesome.  From the Runnel stone we head to Longships (the BBC news will never be the same) and again the view is spectacular.  As we’re admiring the lighthouse I happen to look down and there are 2 dolphins playing round the boat.  They stay for a couple of magical moments so we can both see them, and then vanish.  We carry on round the peninsula and up past The Brisons and Cape Cornwall and, as the sun goes down, the whole coast is bathed in glorious evening light, we are truly blessed.  It’s strange to think that we’re in the Atlantic with nothing but water between us and America.   On up to St Ives but, as expected, we are too early to enter the harbour so we pick up a visitors buoy outside in the bay just as the light goes.  A perfect day and we’re now on the North Cornish coast ready for the next stage of the journey.

Photos: 1) Juniper amongst Newlyn’s fishing boats,  2) view from Juniper in the harbour, 3) Newlyn is the new home for the Penlee lifeboat and this plaque records the story of the Solomon Browne and the loss of life, 4) the new Penlee lifeboat back from exercise, 5) Would it be easier by road? 6) it’s tricky taking photos from a boat,  7) that’s better, Longships lighthouse as it really is.
