50:22.31N 04:11.64W We’re in Cornwall! We didn’t think we were going to be because it was a case of ‘Fog on the Tyne’, sorry Dart, this morning. I’d intended to take some photos from dry land of the Royal Naval College and an amazing car ferry but fog stopped play, so the only photo I have is the one I took last night of the Daymark beacon up on the hill by the entrance to the harbour. The lower car ferry consists of a floating platform pushed and pulled by a tug – it’s incredible to watch. Anyway, we decided to stick our noses outside the harbour entrance this morning as the guy in the harbour office thought the fog would clear. It is so eerie being at sea in fog and as we rounded Start Point we could hear the lighthouse foghorn. Luckily the fog duly lifted and we sailed all the way close hauled, even up Plymouth Sound – and a port tack meant we could see the coastline too. The nature of the waves has changed, longer bigger non-breaking waves presumably influenced by the Atlantic so we know we’re nearing Lands End. No blog now for a couple of days as we’re jumping ship to stay with family, normal broadcasting will resume when we’re back on board. |
