Departure from Bayonne

Our crew enjoyed a day ashore and a long farewell lunch to Anologue Dave who, having done the rough, tough sailor bit of the Bay of Biscay with its mountainous rolling waves, has departed for the nearest airport and a flight home to sanity. His duties of navigation will be handled by Roger and its fair to say he won't be missed in the galley as he was hardly ever there.

The lunch merged seemlessly into a night out in Bayonne (42:07.3N 008:50.7W) where we found a street bistro adjacent to a live band (outdoor) and a good time was had by all - getting back to the boat minus one hat (Pauls) and plus one wallet (Roger's negotiating skills with a street vendor much to the fore) and more peanuts than in the whole of the Southern States - enough said.

The next leg will take us to Cascais (Portugal), a mere 210 miles south, so an early afternoon departure should mean arrival sometime Thursday morning if wind and weather co-operate (which they rarely do).

On the domestic front, I'm (very) pleased to report that the showers ashore worked well - in fact you can't imagine how pleased we all are about this as comments about Bob's feet were starting to emerge. The maintenance tasks and re-provisioning have been completed (slowly) by the three hungover crew and a sprightly Bob who feels 200% better than anyone else.

With crew down to four, it will mean a new watch system - just as we were getting the hang of the old one - so more chaos expected.

More tomorrow. Happy days.
