Noon Position Twenty Seven June 44:48.9N 018:44.8W
Days run by log 121 miles
Dear Reader
A fairly relaxing 24 hours sail, as most of the time I stowed the main and
ran only with the genoa, which allowed me to sail directly to my waypoint.
Still made good mileage though and managed to miss the gale 8 winds to the
north of us.
Picked up one freighter with my Radar watch alarm which is the first time it
has detected something in anger. It sleeps for a period of either 5 , 10 or
20 minutes and then wakes up and checks if there is anything in the guard
zone you construct around you. Still seems a lot of ships around so only
taking 30 sleep breaks at present which normally nets about 15 to 20
minutes sleep. Still don't quite trust the radar as its failed to work
correctly more times than not.
I Can't remember if I mentioned the leaking rudder on the way out to the
Azores? Anyway I was pumping between 80 to 100 pump full of water out of the
bilges. Since I have bodged the problem in Terceira, I haven't managed to
pump anything out so far.............................so three cheers for
Bodge's bodge.
I think I overdid the all over tan as I now have two sore patches on my
butt. Its either that or its salt sores developing again. I had a look with
a mirror and it looks as though I have a map of Iceland on each cheek. I
think its Iceland, but the boat was rocking, I was squatting, and I didn't
want the mirror to disappear where the sun don't shine. I've turned the boat
out,( but Numpty rides again), as I don't have any Savalon ointment, or any
other antiseptic. What I do have is today's featured
product.........................which are Boots Hypoallergenic, Baby Wipes
in a handy one handed dispenser. Get this; you can use these for a)
Cleaning areas prone to Nappy Rash ( Or maps of Iceland), b) Having a quick
face, hands, and bits wash, c) wiping off dust and grunge from white fibre
glass areas, d) wiping dust and polishing varnished areas, e) cleaning
galley and cooker, f) and finally putting the finishing touches and
polishing the engine. Do try to use a fresh cloth for each application
otherwise the measles outbreak you see in the mirror, may only be residual
crumbs from the galley.
Winds dropping at the moment so I'll have to put more sail
out..................................although I'll wait for the latest
forecast first.
Lastly I'd like to leave you with this quote from Murphy's Laws
"Tell a man there are 300 billion stars in the universe and he'll believe
you. Tell him a bench has wet paint on it and he'll have to touch to be
sure."
Tune in tomorrow for interesting facts on food.
