Dear Reader,
A fairly good days run again with 113 miles on the log. The sun came out
yesterday and the wind held up until the evening when it dropped to 10 to 15
Kts. We stopped running downwind and have now headed more south to skirt a
depression which will hit our destination of Friday the 13th (oh Oh !!),
with rain 30 Kt winds which will blow right into the harbour. There's no way
that we will arrive in those conditions, so that's why we have gone south
and slowed down a little. We can always heave to in deep water off the shelf
until it passes if we arrive too early.
It was a bit lumpy last night which I call "Stagecoach Weather". As I am
trying to sleep an occasional wave knocks the boat on her beam , and my
automatic response is to jump up and shout "whoah" Slept in a bit this
morning and woke to find brilliant sunshine, barmy 10 kt winds and the sea a
lot calmer.
Its strange, when its sunny out there with nice seas, I cant motivate myself
to do anything. I just sit in the cockpit for hours on end staring and
myriad reflections of the sun on the water. It is a trance like state which
is sometimes difficult to end and if you were to ask me what I was thinking
I couldn't say. Probably everything and nothing. This is the real reason for
coming to sea, not the sailing, but the complete freedom from timetables and
schedules and distraction. A chance to meditate in perfect surroundings.
The thought for today comes from an ancient Tibetan manuscript. "Whatever
you resolve to do; do it quickly. Defer not till the morrow what the
morning will accomplish"
I'm back off to the sun for some more thinking. ( Not forgetting the
sunscreen of course)
