Days run on log a miserly 67
Dear Reader,
The good news today is that its another gloriously sunny day but the bad
news is
there is bugger all wind, as the Azores high has pushed a ridge over us
bound for UK. Good news for you lot in UK though.
Cruising chute didn't let me down until the early hours of this morning when
I took pity on its pathetic droopy shape and put it back in the bag. Wind is
about 4 kts or less and it cant even keep my tell tales in the air. The
charts show that this can last for several days where we are (only have 3
day charts at moment), so we are slowly clawing our way SE away from Azores
to look for wind nearer Spain. (Currently 1.5 to 2 kts speed).
Saw a whale, or maybe two, yesterday when the first one sounded about 20
metres away and was at least as big as the boat (They looked like
humpbacks). By the time I rushed down and got my lifejacket back on and
epirb in my pocket it was cruising around on the other side and surfaced
about 30 metres away which I caught on video. Scary as hell but what an
amazing site to see!!
So I shall continue towards Spain until I find wind or if the high looks too
settled maybe working my way back home I don't know yet. I've already been
away from home and family for a month and.................as Bruce my Aussie
sailor friend used to say "Absence makes the heart grow
blonder..........want another beer mate" In fact Bruce was extremely fond of
beer and he was pulled over driving in Alice Springs, recently, with the
whole of the back seat filled with lager, restrained by the baby seat, and
toddler sitting calmly in the front The Judge told him he was fining him
$2000 and said he never come across a man more obsessed with beer and have
you anything to say. Bruce jumped up and said
"Strewth your lordship, that's a bit heavy. What about my 4 X wives and my
foster child. (Anyone who didn't get it please ask a drinker)
Have come up with a cunning plan to find wind. I'll shake out the flattening
reef in the mainsail (which has been stopping it slatting so much) and hey
presto the wind will come as it always does when I take reefs out.. Will it
work........................tune in tomorrow!
Hey ho off to find wind wish me luck
Berni
