Ice slow to melt at Pond Inlet

You may be wondering why our positions look a bit erratic. We had planned to set off across Baffin Bay today but the latest Canadian ice chart shows that Pond Inlet remains inaccessible at the moment due to ice concentration. So we remain on Disko Island, anchored in a beautiful little bay with high mountains all around. Beautiful that is until you step outside and get eaten alive by the mosquitoes. Fortunately they’ve taken more of a fancy to the other two, prefering the young fresh flesh to the old tough stuff.

Our plan now is to try again on Tuesday 29th, but we’ll keep a close eye on the latest charts. Meanwhile Pete and Hywel will be waiting for us in Pond Inlet, no doubt keeping themselves and the settlement entertained with their camera drone. Transiting the Northwest Passage is sure to involve a certain amount of hurrying to wait, so this is good practise for all of us!
