Hello we have not been able to do any rowing since 7am yesterday 27/1/10 due
to continued strong winds from the south west/west. To stop ourselves being
blown backward we have a parachute type devise that we put in the water and
this keeps us still relative to the water rather than being blown along the
surface of the water by the wind. This 'Para-anchor' or 'sea anchor' is
working very well and we have not been blown backwards at all if anything we
are still being pulled along by the ocean currents that are acting on the
anchor!
That said it is not very comfortable as all the wind and waves are basically
beating into the front of the boat the whole time. Our normal 90 min rowing
90 min off is obviously not happening as we are not rowing so that means
that both of us have to squeeze into the cabin. We have been listening to
music and even watched a film on Paul's ipod. Been siiting out on deck for a
bit, getting wet but it's warm enough not to ware much, to stretch out and
get some fresh air rather than the aroma of the cabin which after three and
a half weeks of being lived in has a slight fragrance!
This weather is looking like it is set to continue over the weekend so we
may be in the current situation for a few days :-(
