Good steady progress today using the cruising chute (like a simple spinnaker) under blue skies in perfect sailing conditions. A very gentle motion, gliding serenely along albeit not as fast as we’d like. Now under poled out jib for the night, creeping along at about 3-4kts. It’s too risky to fly the cruising chute at night - there is no moon at present and a sudden squall coming out of the dark could really cause problems. We had one last night; the wind went from 12kts to 32kts in a minute or two and the boat speed increased from 2kts to 8kts. Really fun for half an hour - but reckless or worse with the cruising chute. More light becoming very light winds tomorrow, then a period of calm before the wind shifts round to the NE and becomes strong (which will thoroughly suit us. The calm won’t though, so the current plan is to make for Falmouth Harbour on Antigua and wait there for perhaps 48 hrs of R&R until the weather sorts itself out. Should get there tomorrow evening.
DTG to Falmouth 110nm; DTG to Sint Maarten 207nm - so near and yet so far.
