Here is Alison and our visiting friend Irene
Rowland trying hard to relax in a double hammock at a beach bar at White Bay,
Jost van Dyke a few days ago. This was a much busier place than on our last
visit several years previously - largely caused by day trippers from the USVI
coming across for lunch. I watched these boats come and go from the US islands
without going anywhere near Customs & Immigration; I can just imagine what
the American authorities would do if the situation were reversed. USVI Customs
& Immigration are famed even in the States for their rudeness but I
think their BVI counterparts are trying to outdo them in some
sort unpleasantness competition.
However the whole ridiculous charade assumes its
proper significance in the great scheme of world events when seen from the
inside of a hammock.
