Plodding on through the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) or 'the doldrums' as it used to be known. The ITCZ is a band about 50-150km wide around the equator where air masses from the northern and southern hemispheres meet, causing notoriously light and variable winds. In this vicinity it is permanently stationed north of the equator and we therefore have to pass through it to reach the Galapagos. However we're making progress, currently moving at about five knots under cruising chute (a large colourful sail in front of the mast) on a flat sea.
