Sunday 10th.
Today it was decided to be a sight seeing day and a short
sail up the solent to the Beaulieu river.
Opposite Gosport is Portsmouth and the home to the royal
navy. North of old Portsmouth town is the famous warship the HMS Victory and the
remains of the Mary Rose. After a morning of sight seeing every one was back on
board for a afternoon sail up the solent. After slipping Gosport we
motored back out into the solent to light variable winds. After a slow sail
we put on the engine and headed towards the Beaulieu river. Passing Cowes on the
north of the Isle of Wight the wind increased and was from the west. We made our
way towards Beaulieu and into the river. Our intentions was to spend the
night on anchor and leave early the next morning to cross Lyme bay. With the
wind direction not favorable and the tide falling it was decided to make
our way back to Cowes for the night.
