Hi to everyone following our progress, and hi to
those of you who hae misspelled something in google and ended up on our web
page!
id like to start by saying happy anniversary to my
beautiful girlfriend jess (yes its our anniversary not hers and someone else),
im sorry i cant be with you today but il be thinking of you. i love you more tha
ever and cant wat to see you.
well morale onboard is good, niall is looking more
like a mexican everyday. i half expect to emerge for my shift to find him in a
poncho, sombraro, strumming a little guitar and eating tortillas. he keeps
calling me gringo! its strange how our weather lingo differs, niall describes
the clouds as cumulonimbus, sirrus and nimbosrasus. he also talks of high and
low pressure, cyclones and anti cyclones. i say wooly clouds, rainy clouds,,
windy and not so windy! niall has talked about applying to mensa when we get
back, i never knew he was interested in space travel?!
we received an email from a greg lavin from a dive
centre in ireland, he thinks that its likely that our little fish dora has laid
eggs on the underside of the boat and is hanging around until they hatch. last
night i had a little chat with dora during which she confirmed that this is
true, she is however embarresed and ashamed that she does not know who the
father is. i had a suspicion it might be niall, however she denied this and
insists that the 2 of them used protection! dora is very excited, shes never had
kids before and as yet does not know their gender. secretly she is hoping for 20
boys and 15 girls. if the boys all have strange moustaches and start talking
rubbish il know who the father really is.
dora is revelling in her new found fame, having
been featured on the bbc, race website, numerous radio stations and is the
subject of no less than 2 poetry groups. on the back of this she hopes to
become a chat show host.
ok onto life at sea, what have been the highs for
me so far? number one with a bullet has to be catching niall in the face with my
freshly trimmed bum hair, his scream and look of disgust will stay with me
forever! there have been many highs out here, surfing down the face of a wave at
over 13 knots is something you can only appreciate if you have experienced it.
its like the best rollercoaster ride in the world only better and unpredictable.
anything could happen, it could tip the boat, fill us with water or just land on
top of us. the wildlife we have seen has also been amazing, being
surrounded by numerous dolphins, a whale circling and swimming under us, flying
fish smashing into waves like kamikaze pilots, amazing coloured dorado jumping
from the water and belly flopping back down, and of course watching the many
birds as they glide effortlessly amongst the waves.
the skies at night have also been truely
incredible, i never knew there were o many stars up there! ive seen shooting
stars, comets, constellations and the sea lit only by the moonlight. sunsets and
sunrise with no obstructions are also a fantastic spectacle.
other highs include shifts where i have been filled
with an enormous sense of pride and acheivement for what we are doing, and
receiving so many emails from people back home saying how they admire what we
are doing. the pride felt by my family and friends as a result of what i am
doing is one of the most satisfying feelings i have ever experienced.
another important high for the 2 of us is every
tuesday and saturday, pork scratching day! thank you to my dad for bringing them
to la gomera, they taste out of this world. there are few occasions you can get
away with eating pork scratchings and this is one of them! mr. porky is now one
of my closest friends!
there really are so many great things we have
experienced, there have been bad aswell but eventually they will fade into the
distance leaving a truely remarkable and enjoyable journey. who knows in 10
years i might have forgotten about all the negatives and want to do it
again........................yeah right!!
well thats me for today, listen to original bristol
tomorrow as my sisters are on there! that should make some great comedy radio!
only joking, im sure you will be great and im so pleased that you are
involved in my adventure.
well as niall would say ta ta for now
(weirdo).
