happy boxing day everyone!
well christmas came and went in the blink of an
eye, as you can imagine there wasnt a huge amout of celebration onboard Komale
and there certainly wasnt any mistletoe. i specifically banned niall from
bringing any despite his protests! thanks to our families we had a couple of
stockings to open, the majority of mine was chocolate which was superb, the mini
christmas pudding and yule log were really tasty! there was also of course a
couple of santa hats and a christmas tree which lights up! thank you to the
burge family for that. we did nothing special to mark the occasion and in fact
did not even take a break from our hour on/off routine. we both made a few phone
calls home, it was fantastic as always to speak to jess and my parents who
sounded as though they were having a good day. this time last year i was
thinking what it was going to be like spending christmas out in the atlantic and
now i know, i will look back at this next year with fond memories and appreciate
more than ever celebrating christmas at home. well its new year next and soon
after that we will be in antigua where we will celebrate all the events we have
missed......and a few more!
an interesting day today, the day started well with
good winds and a following sea so we were making good progress. during my shift
i was rowing along nicely when the rowing gate unexpectedly came open and the
oar came loose! as you will know we have already lost one oar and i wasnt about
to loose another so without thinking i dived overboard and grabbed the oar as it
was floating away. unfortunately in the process i managed to loose a pair of my
maui jim sunglasses which have been absolutely superb. i was gutted but
glad to have saved the oar.
shortly after that incident we spotted a yacht on
the horizon, niall thought it might be tony bullimore handing out mars bars but
is turned out to be support yacht sara. it was nice to see them and they spent a
bit of time beside us filling us in on other teams progress and our own. before
long they were gone so its just me, niall and some deaf guys mp3
player.
as you might have gathered by our blogs niall and
are very different but fortunately get along well. here are a few
examples:
dress sense - my sister is looking out for clothes
for me in the january sales, niall wants first refusal on the shorts ive been
wearing for the last 3 weeks
music - i like a good mixture of modern and classic
music, niall likes takeaway hits 2005 and rolf harris
education - niall got an education, i got gcse's
and a levels.
facial hair - please refer to the pictures, i need
say no more
friends - nialls friend has a monacle, my friends
dont know what a monacle is.
well its my turn at the oars, id imagine a lot of
you are back to work tomorrow so enjoy the final day of the festive season.
il be back!
