Nimble Ape II

The ‘Newfies’ of St John’s have been very welcoming and we were
kindly granted a ride by another yacht owner to the store for various bits and
pieces, plus yet more groceries to keep Ricardo fed and up to fighting weight.
We successfully fuelled and watered, wrote off the inverter after leaving it
with some mad bloke in a basement and mentally prepared ourselves to cross for
the third time.
Life is never dull, even alongside, as I discovered when a
commotion arose while I was showering on the boat. Shouts of alarm were
followed by heavy footsteps and dramatic engine revs and I looked out of the
bathroom window to see Ricardo’s legs, a moving shoreline and the boat which
had been rafted up to our port side still attached. I could only guess at what
would cause us to start manoeuvring about with somebody else’s boat but there
was not a lot I could do from my vantage point. I came up 10 minutes later
expecting not to recognise my surroundings, but we were back in place having
apparently retrieved one of our fenders which was drifted away.
With the afternoon spent sourcing a long sheet for the cruising
chute and doing something with the auxiliary battery, our new departure time is
set for first thing tomorrow (Saturday) morning.
