Kakadu & Litchfield Parks

Guy the kids and I packed up the hire car and took off
inland for three days to tour the famous Kakadu and Litchfield National
Parks. We took a cruise down Yellow River and saw lots of crocs and
beautiful birds including Jabiru, Eagles and even a Pukeko (for those in
NZ). The kids loved the air conditioned hotel with swimming pool (they
called it Hotel California). We saw some gigantic Magnetic Termite
mounds. Some as old as 50 yrs. These termites are organised and
dedicated to their work – that’s obvious. They are able to
build their mounds in a direction away from the sun to minimise heat within the
nest on hot days and keep the heat in on cool days..facinating. and these
mounds are EVERYWHERE!!! Crocs are also everywhere. Whilst cruising
down Yellow River, Guy took some beautiful pics of the crocs casually waiting
for food to pass their way. (as seen below in the pics). We were
also pretty impressed by the rock art at Ubir. Some of the paintings defy
the laws of physics and one wonders how they were actually painted at all
– on the underside of overhanging rocks about two stories high. |
