We motored out to sea - checking our course. There was fog all around us so there were no farewells to land over a period of time, just the sudden dropping of a damp wet grey curtain. Canada was gone. There was very little wind to begin with but it gradually got up so that we could set our sails. As the day went on the sun kept trying to break through the grey clouds surrounding us but did not succeed. Night fell with the eery curtain still around us. We sailed along in our little bubble - the radar showing us that there were no ships around.
Towards midnight the moon rose as a red ball. It rose above the fog and laid down a path of golden light. Curtis passed a fishing boat.
