Arrived in Portimao after rounding Cape St Vincent with the dawn. A perfect
morning as we watched the sky put on its amazing colour show before the sun
crept up over the horizon and hit us in the eye. The Cape and its lighthouse
were towering above and Henry the Navigators place at Sagres and its church were
illuminated by the rising sun AND we were actually sailing!! The wind even
freshened as we rounded the Cape and we powered east under main and yankee at 7+
k in a perfect morning. Almost made up for the endless motoring. Got onto
Portimao reception berth in force 7 made all the more fun by an absence of
cleats on the dock. Waited there o’nite before moving to marina berth when near
gale abated. Weather lovely. Had dinner at hotel restaurant which was v good and
last nite at another place in the complex which was not very good.
Thanks to all the motoring we spent y’day changing engine oil and filters
up to neck in dirty oil and kitchen roll and walking miles to dump the stuff
aka ‘living the dream’ as they say in the glossy mags ads – it’s so much
fun.
