We're off at last. The last week was frantic with more
unexpected boat issues which thanks to hard work and ingenuity of the crew we
think we have mostly solved. Our fresh fruit/veg was delivered at 2130 the night
before and we were cleaning and stowing on the dock in the rain til
2200!!!
The start was fun with music blaring, crowds waving,
fireworks and sunshine. Started in 18k then hit the acceleration zone off the
airport and went to 3 reefs and 3 rolls in the yankee. Then got into the
Tenereife wind shadow with 6k , thought we
were going to shake the rig out of the boat as in a horrible seas so started
motoring. Wind picked up and now got 16k and 6.5 boat speed with full main and
yankee. Will get assy up sometime as wind in right 1/4 and we on course 240 mag
for 20N 30W where we turn right. Hit 9.5k in the acceleration
zone!!! Fleet spreading out now and most
AIS off. Git watermaker purged and Duogen deployed. New autopilot christened by
Allden as "Jenniffa" aka Jennie with a "j" not a "g" as in genoa as in
"Jenniffa, genoa?" - geddit?
Been at sea too long already!!!
Roger been obviously spending too much time with North
given his activities in the 'humour' dept. Jack settling in fine but still
trying to get to grips with Britspeak/humour
